Privatisation Opportunity

The GOJ is the beneficial owner of the Assets relating to 6 sugar estates across the island and an ethanol plant which it intends to privatise. These estates are:
·        Monymusk, in the parish of Clarendon
·        Frome, in the parish of Westmoreland
·        Bernard Lodge, in the parish of Saint Catherine
·        St Thomas Sugar Company, in the parish of Saint Thomas
·        Long Pond in the parish of Trelawny and
·        Hampden, in the parish of Trelawny


The Petrojam Ethanol Limited plant is located in the capital city of Kingston.


Sugar Negotiating Team

The Cabinet has approved the appointment of the Sugar Negotiating Team, chaired by Mr Aubyn Hill, a Financial and Strategic Planning Consultant, to oversee the privatisation of the Assets owned by the GOJ. The other members of the SNT comprise a cross-section of representatives from the public and private sector, and include:

  • Ambassador Derick Heaven (Chairman, Sugar Industry Authority)
  • Mr Archibald Campbell (Accountant, University of the West Indies Lecturer)
  • Ms Stephanie Muir (Attorney at Law, Development Bank of Jamaica Limited)
  • Mr Wentworth Charles (Attorney-at-Law, Director – Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica)
  • Dr Wesley Hughes (Director General – Planning Institute of Jamaica)
  • Mrs Betty Ann Jones (Accountant, Senior Partner)
  • Mrs Sharon Weber (DBJ & the PetroCaribe Fund)

The remit for the SNT is to invite, assess, evaluate and recommend suitable investors to Cabinet.  The Cabinet has approved the appointment of the Sugar Negotiating Team, chaired by Mr Aubyn Hill, a Financial and Strategic Planning Consultant, to oversee the privatisation of the Assets owned by the GOJ.
